What is the LA Opera Bus Trip Getaway about?
Join the Palm Springs Opera Guild for an unforgettable day at LA Opera as we travel together to experience Giuseppe Verdi’s monumental masterpiece, Nabucco. This exciting Bus Getaway offers members and friends the opportunity to enjoy one of opera’s most thrilling works while celebrating the extraordinary success of one of our own.
The production stars acclaimed American soprano Angela Meade, winner of the Palm Springs Opera Guild’s 2003 Vocal Competition, in the demanding role of Abigaille—one of opera’s most dramatic and vocally spectacular heroines. Since her Guild competition victory, Meade has risen to international acclaim, performing leading roles at the world’s most prestigious opera houses, including the Metropolitan Opera, Vienna State Opera, and LA Opera. Her return to Southern California in this signature Verdi role is a special moment for Guild members who have followed her remarkable career from its earliest days.
First performed in 1842, Nabucco launched Verdi’s career and remains one of his most beloved operas. Set against the backdrop of the Babylonian exile, the opera tells a powerful story of love, ambition, faith, and redemption. Audiences will experience soaring choruses, unforgettable melodies, and the iconic “Va, pensiero” (“Chorus of the Hebrew Slaves”), one of the most moving and recognizable pieces in all of opera.
Travel in comfort with fellow opera enthusiasts, enjoy the camaraderie of Guild friends, and leave the driving to us as we journey to the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion for this spectacular performance. Whether you’re a longtime opera lover or attending your first Verdi masterpiece, this Bus Getaway promises an inspiring musical experience—and the chance to applaud one of the Palm Springs Opera Guild’s own success stories on one of America’s great opera stages.
Reserve your seat early. This popular Guild outing is expected to sell quickly.
