A program for high school classical vocal training.

Two composers, three singers, a librettist, a coordinator, plus an accompanist, came together for OPERAtunity – a ten-day vocal workshop intensive for young adult singers (age 15-21 years) from the Coachella Valley.

This intensive program, OPERAtunity, will take place from June 15-27 at the Rancho Mirage Library and Observatory. The workshops are college level and aimed at career preparation for students interested in exploring a career either as singers, or in the administrative world of classical music.

During the intensive, students were assigned at least one solo piece and one ensemble repertoire that introduced them to the concepts and techniques inherent to classical vocal performance (breath support, diction, practice/time-management, stage presence, historical context, and modern developments.)

Throughout the workshop, students work one-on-one with the professional opera faculty preparing for a Community Showcase at the end of the program which includes repertoire from The Marriage of Figaro. The students will take a field trip and experience the world of opera behind the scenes at the Los Angeles Opera and will learned various arias over the course of just 10 days.

The Community Showcase, at the Rancho Mirage Library and Observatory will be on Satuday, June 27 at 1PM and will featured the young adult singers. It was made possible by generous grants from The Augustine Foundation & The Bartush Family Foundation
