Palm Springs Opera Guild

History

More than 50 years of artistic excellence and community engagement has earned the Palm Springs Opera Guild a major role in shaping the national cultural reputation of Palm Springs. PSOG has also made—and continues to make—an important contribution to the economic impact of the performing arts in Southern California.

BACKGROUND

The Palm Springs Opera Company, which later merged with the Palm Springs Opera Guild, was co-founded in 1968 by Mrs. William B. (Vicki) Malouf and Diva Lily Pons, with support from Miriam Terhune (Mimi) Rudulph, who was a major force for the arts in the desert in the ’60’s and ’70’s.  In the years since, PSOG has presented many up and coming artists that have gone on to major careers both nationally and internationally. Young artists including lyric soprano Marilyn O’Leary, Licia Albanese, Gitta Alpar, Beverly Sills, Norman Mittleman, Renata Scotto, Rita Moreno, Sondra Radvanovsky, and Angel Blue have all participated in our programs.
In recent years, the company’s commitment to community engagement, artistic collaborations, innovative performances and programming, audience development, education, fiscally responsible management, and support for emerging artists have dramatically advanced and expanded the mission of the Palm Springs Opera Guild.
