PS Opera Guild offers its FREE education outreach summer program, OPERAtunity to Coachella Valley secondary students in summer 2023. OPERAtunity is a unique program for high school classical vocal training. Industry professionals, composers, singers, librettists, and an accompanist come together for OPERAtunity. OPERAtunity is a ten-day summer program that allows choral students to explore the OPERA art in depth with professional singers using interactive lessons on vocal, performance techniques culminating in a final showcase, thereby embedding many of the California Music Standards.
This music program will take place June 2023 at the Rancho Mirage Library and Observatory. The workshops are college level and aimed at career preparation for students interested in exploring a career either as singers or in the administrative world of classical music. The program is open to students from Gr. 9 thru age 21 with daily interactive workshops from 1pm to 5pm.

During the intensive, students are assigned at least one solo piece and one ensemble repertoire that introduces them to the concepts and techniques inherent to classical vocal performance (breath support, diction, practice/time-management, stage presence, historical context, and modern developments). Throughout the daily workshops, students work one-on-one with the professional opera faculty preparing for a Community Showcase at the end of the program. Students will improve vocal and performance techniques, research and prepare opera selections, and be provided an opportunity to possibly be awarded Vocal Training the following year.
